The Classification Unit (CLASS) was formed in 1996 to complement work done by professional (original) catalogers who are presently in Metadata Creation. We are a high-volume production unit responsible for the creation of abbreviated metadata for incoming print monographs in nearly all European languages, including assignment of Library of Congress call numbers and subject keywords. CLASS staff possess a breadth of language and subject expertise and our Unit typically creates 16,000-18,000 records per year.
For questions about the Classification Unit, please contact the unit head Margaret Hughes.
