International Women's Day/History Month
In honor of International Women’s Day/History Month we’d like to update the Stanford community on our efforts to collect and provide access to materials documenting Stanford women.
New Ambrose Bierce manuscript collection open for research: Foster Family Collection of Ambrose Bierce materials
Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914?), author of such noted Civil War short stories as the “Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” collected in his seminal 1891 collection Tales of Soldiers and Civilians, was unique among American writers for his front-line service as a combatant in the American Civil War. Thanks to a recent major gift, the Department of Special Collections in the Stanford University Libraries now hold unique manuscript materials relating to Bierce’s Civil War service.

Trial access available for database of Korean magazines
Stanford is currently offering trial access to the Korean magazine database Moazine, from now until February 2019.
East Asia Library adds two new Western-language newspaper databases
The East Asia Library has recently gained access to two newly released archives of Western-language newspapers published in East Asia during the 1930s and 1940s, both of which are important resources for studying Japanese imperialism in East Asia.
Stanford Libraries acquire rare volume of Tibetan murals
The Stanford Libraries have recently acquired a copy of Thomas Laird's Murals of Tibet, published by TASCHEN Books. This rare 498- paged item, measuring 19.7 x 27.6 inches and featuring a number of life-size reproductions of Tibetan Buddhist murals, is one of only a thousand copies produced.
East Asia Library acquires several large new Western-language databases
The East Asia Library has recently purchased several important database collections of Western-language historical materials that are now available for Stanford users to access. These databases include documents digitized from collections held at the British Library, the Second Historical Archives of China, and a number of other libraries and archives.
